The Monkey's Paw

I was lucky enough to have come into this course with directing and producing experience which made things far less daunting. In addition, I was able to share some tips and tricks I'd learned over the years with my classmates which not only made things run smoothly but also helped us bond as co-producers and company members. The show I decided to direct is The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs and adapted by Mara Rockliff. This show pulled together elements of horror and comedy along with allowing me time to polish up my accent/dialect work. Overall, this has been a short but sweet process that I've been lucky enough to be a part of!
As a student in the THE 531: Directing II course at Missouri State University this spring, I was given the opportunity to direct and co-produce a one at play showcase for three public performances. My fellow THE 531 classmates and I formed our class production company, Serious Goose Co., and got to work analyzing and selecting scripts we wanted to direct. Everything from auditions and callbacks, to cue to cue rehearsal, to publicity, to programming and running lights and sound fell on we the students.
